Hike: Nafplio-Ag. Nikolaos-Karathona beach

A wonderful round trip hike (or one way) that starts at the the heart of Nafplio – Syntagma square, moving under the Venetian fortresses of Akronafplia and Palamidi on the famous Lithostroto of the city (paved pathway) by the sea. The hike offers unique views of the setting sun on the west side of the Argolic gulf. It ends at the south edge of Karathonas bay on the chapel of Ag. Ioannis, built on a rocky terrain above the sea.

Paths of Menalon Trail

Menalon Trail is a unique network of 75 Km. of paths in one of the most rugged areas of Greece, and the first in the country certified by the European Ramblers Association in Arcadia. It also joins a number of other local paths, making a total length that exceeds 200 Km. “In Greek mythology, it was the home of the god Pan, protector of wilderness, mountains and nature. In European Renaissance arts Arcadia was celebrated as an unspoiled, harmonious wilderness”).

Today the region of Gortynia of Arcadia is an environment of archaeological sites, museums, medieval monasteries, and stonebuilt bridges, with picturesque villages, fast crystal clear rivers, unique and endemic flora and great variety of fauna.

Vytina-Elati Path

One of the nicest and easiest paths of the Menalon Trail (part of a bigger one Vytina-Stemnitsa), appropriate for easy-goers and families. The path starts from the town of Vytina at an altitude of 1000 m. approx., and is one of the nicest mountain resorts of the country.

It moves parallel to the river bed of Mylaon river and its ravine. The hikers on their way, have the opportunity to see an old water mill, a stonebuilt bridge and a wooden one. The path ends a bit further from the village of Elati, at the church of Zoodochos Pigi.

Lousios Gorge Path (Dimitsana – Ancient Gortys Asklepieion)

A very interesting hike along one of the wildest gorges and rivers of the country on an environment of wild and orgiastic nature.

The path starts at picturesque Dimitsana famous for its exquisite stone built houses and mansions, one of the villages that contributed to the resurrection against the Ottoman Turks and its unique museum of hydraulics (www.piop.gr).

The hikers have the opportunity to visit two medieval (Byzantine times) monasteries that are nesting on its vertical cliffs, seeking seclusion and protection on turbulent times, the “Philosophe’s monastery (founded 963) and that of “Prodromos” (founded 1167) and a classical era Asklepieion (ancient hospital), dedicated to the god of medicine Asclepius part of the ancient city Gortys at the end of the gorge. At this location they can have a refreshing bath at the crystal clear waters of Loussios river.

Continuing the hike, the group will pass the nice village of Elliniko in order to approach ancient Gortys. 24,5 Klm. 0,50m.

Hike: Archaeological site of Mycenae to Prosymna village – an ancient Bronze Age Mycenaean road.

The hike starts from ancient Mycenae the capital of the Bronze Age Mycenaean civilization and through cultivations and perennial olive groves, ends at Prosymna village offering amazing views at the ancient citadel and city.

The hiker also has the opportunity to see a number of ancient ruins like a Hellenistic tower, Roman baths, a water mill and a Bronze age stone bridge. The path was part of a road network connecting Corinth to Argos in classical times.
